My heart thundered against my ribs as I raced across the sand, dodging rogue waves at Olas Altas beach. Then, just as the sun grazed the horizon… whoosh! A fearless cliff diver soared into the Pacific, arms outstretched. That moment – pure Mazatlan magic – is totally free.
And it’s just the start. From strolling our endless Malecón to exploring cobbled Old Town streets, Mazatlan is packed with experiences that fill your soul, not just your Instagram feed. Better yet, you don’t need a fortune to fall in love with this city.
I’ve lived here for four years, and I’m still discovering incredible places and flavors on a dime (or completely free). Let me show you the very best Mazatlan Mexico attractions – the iconic spots, the hidden gems, and how to make your pesos stretch further.

Extra Budget-Saving Secrets
Okay, we’ve talked about free and super affordable attractions, but here’s how to make your ENTIRE Mazatlan trip easier on the wallet:
Street Food: Not Just Cheap, It’s THE Mazatlan Food Experience
Forget those fancy restaurants for a minute. The absolute best way to eat in Mazatlan is on the street! Tacos, fresh seafood tostadas, churros…
You’ll find carts and stands all over the city, especially along the Malecón and in the markets. It’s insanely delicious, authentic, and you can feast for a few dollars.
Don’t worry, it’s safe – just choose spots that seem busy with locals, that’s always a good sign.
Pulmonias: Breezy Rides & Local Interactions
These open-air taxis are a Mazatlan icon. Sure, you can use Uber, but where’s the fun in that?
Pulmonias are a super cheap way to get around, and you’ll usually share a ride with other people. It’s a great way to practice your Spanish and get a real feel for the city’s vibe.
Beyond the Beaches: Cerro de la Neveria (Views) & Neighborhood Gems
Mazatlan has way more to offer than just the sand (even though the beaches are AMAZING). Venture into the neighborhoods! Up the hill from Centro Histórico is home to Cerro de la Neveria – where I actually live!
Check out the “Mirador” It has incredible views over the city, and it feels a world away from the tourist zones.
The best way to get up here? Take a pulmonia tour and experience the best views in town!
